I never wanted to be a builder…
It just wasn’t something I’d ever considered—until a friend asked if I’d be interested. He needed an apprentice and two trial days later, I was hooked.
We worked on high-end heritage homes and architecturally designed new builds across the wider Auckland area. The fusion of classical detailing and modern elements was absolutely captivating to me.
As an apprentice, I made my fair share of mistakes—but each one was a lesson. I learned that building isn’t a production line and every project demands foresight, problem-solving, creative thinking and the time-tested methods passed down through generations.
Building, I discovered, often isn’t repetitive—it’s dynamic. It requires a sharp mind and sharp tools with each new project presenting a new opportunity to hone your skills.
Later, while recovering from back surgery, my wife and I made the move to the Far North where we designed our family home: a Double Bay Villa inspired by the beautiful homes I’d helped bring to life.
Building has become more than a trade—it’s a passion, and a legacy I’m proud to create for my family.
For me, there’s nothing more worthwhile than to build.
